Theresa Villiers has welcomed the news that the Conservative Government’s extended Household Support Fund Allocations for local authorities will be available from this week.

Barnet Council will receive £4,910,366 in this latest round of funding to help families pay for essentials.

This takes the total for this discretionary support for Barnet residents to £12,275,915. The money is aimed at people suffering hardship who may not be eligible for other Government support schemes.

On top of the £1 billion for the Household Support Fund, the Government is providing means-tested £900 Cost-of-Living Payments, a £150 payment for disabled people, and £300 for pensioner households. It has also been paying roughly a third of everyone’s energy bills.

Commenting, Theresa Villiers said: “The Government is determined to help families struggling with rising prices caused by the war in Ukraine and other global pressures.”

“That is why I welcome an extra £4,910,366 for Barnet Council from this week to help vulnerable residents through the Household Support Fund”

“The Household Support Fund is a vital scheme helping families that are unable to pay for essentials. Extending it will help more families in need this year.”

“This is just one element of a total package of cost-of-living support brought forward by the Prime Minister and the Chancellor which is one of the more generous and comprehensive in Europe.”
