Chipping Barnet MP Theresa Villiers attended an Armed Forces Day parade at the weekend to show her support for service personnel past and present.

The Barnet Council-organised event outside Hendon Town Hall on Sunday was presided over by the Mayor Reuben Thompstone.

A number of local units took part in a parade, along with cadets and veterans, including Gurkhas, plus members of the Royal British Legion bikers’ group.

This year, the event also commemorated RAF100 – the centenary of the establishment of the RAF in 1918, and tributes were paid to the achievements of the service over its 100 year history.

“Our armed forces hold a special place in the heart of our communities and it is always a pleasure to support and meet serving personnel and veterans,” said Theresa.

“The borough of Barnet also has an affinity with the RAF because of the long history of Hendon airfield, which is now home to the newly refurbished RAF Museum.

“I was especially pleased to see my constituent Mervyn Kersh - a Normandy veteran who lives in Cockfosters. We owe Mervyn and so many others a great debt for their courage, service and sacrifice and I was delighted to support the day.”
