Theresa Villiers MP with Dr Murtaza Khanbai at NHS Parliamentary Awards

An NHS team from Barnet has achieved recognition in the prestigious NHS Parliamentary Awards 2021.

Nominated by MPs, Theresa Villiers and Mike Freer, the Barnet Sats Probe Home Delivery Team was shortlisted for the Excellence in Primary Care Award.

Established at the height of the first Covid wave, the team redeployed staff and local volunteers, supported by GPs, came together to set up an innovative new service to deliver oxygen saturation probes to patients’ homes.

Theresa Villiers was present at the award ceremony in Westminster on 7th July, along with Dr Murtaza Khanbhai representing the Barnet Sats Probe Team.

Speaking at the conclusion of the awards, Theresa said “The Barnet Sats Probe Team demonstrated innovation, dedication and resilience. Like thousands of other NHS staff around the country, they went the extra mile to care for people during the Covid emergency.”

“I felt honoured to be able to nominate Dr Khanbai and his team. Although they just missed out on the award for Excellence in Primary Care, the fact that they were shortlisted in such a competitive field is a brilliant achievement.”

“The NHS Parliamentary Awards are a great opportunity for MPs to seek recognition for outstanding work by healthcare professionals in their constituency. This year was of course even more poignant than usual because of the courage and sacrifice shown by NHS staff during the outbreak. It was great that the presentation of awards could take place in person, now that Covid rules have been eased."

“Supporting the NHS and seeking the best possible services for my constituents will always be a key goal for me as local MP.”

The winner of the primary care award was Sussex GP, Dr Bruce Allan, for his work on building up a network of GPs across Sussex to help ensure care home residents could access personalised care seven days a week.
