Theresa Villiers joined residents across High Barnet yesterday to celebrate Christmas with the annual High Barnet Christmas Fair, in aid of the Mayor’s charities: Barnet-based Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice and Dementia Club UK.
The Fair took place this year on Sunday 4th December, beginning with a procession from St Albans Road to the centre of Barnet High Street. The Mayor of Barnet, Cllr David Longstaff, and Theresa both made speeches to kick off events. Theresa then went on to meet a range of the local traders, community groups and charities taking part in the Fair including the Barnet Society, Barnet Local History Society and the East Barnet branch of the Royal British Legion. She was shown work by local artists on display in Tudor Hall, one of Barnet’s oldest buildings.
The Fair continued throughout the afternoon with fairground rides, performances from local students from the Bull Theatre, a visit from Father Christmas, and hundreds of stalls setting up shop for the day, while local businesses up and down the High Street opened their doors to take part in the Fair.
Mayor of Barnet David Longstaff said: “It was a pleasure to open this year’s fair on a beautiful, crisp December Sunday. An enormous number of residents enjoyed the High Street and Barnet College forecourt stalls, craft fairs, the food, the funfair, Christmas show at The Bull, Concerts at St John’s Church, Barnet Museum, Snow White, Art at Tudor Hall and a visit from a fabulous Santa – something for everyone. Many thanks and congratulations to the committee, Chaired by Susi Earnshaw, and the wonderful volunteers who make the fair happen.”
Theresa Villiers said: “The Fair is a great showcase of the talent we have here in Barnet, from the students at the theatre school to local businesses and charities. It was good to join local residents and get into the Christmas spirit! Well done to all the many volunteers who make this event possible every year.”
