I would like to wish all my constituents a very happy Easter. This special day in the Christian calendar provides a message of hope, rebirth and renewal which I hope can resonate with people of all faiths and none.
The story of Jesus suffering and dying so that others could be saved still resonates nearly 2000 years later.
I was in Jerusalem in January, as part of a visit to Israel, and valued the opportunity to be in the city where these momentous events took place.
Easter is a good time to reflect on and celebrate the Christian heritage of this country and the wider Western world. Christian ideas have underpinned our systems or morality, ethics and politics for centuries. Although we now live in an increasingly secular society, that Christian legacy continues to influence our outlook on many important questions.
I hope that you all have the chance to enjoy some rest and some time with friends and family over this Easter weekend.
