As the general election continues, Theresa Villiers has issued a campaign update, asking voters to let her continue to work on vital local issues set out in her plan for Chipping Barnet.

“After listening to local residents, I put together a plan for Chipping Barnet and worked with them to take it forward.

We stuck with it — and it’s paying off. From setting up great new schools and boosting police numbers, to stopping Sadiq Khan from building blocks of flats over Cockfosters and High Barnet station car parks, together we’re getting things done for Chipping Barnet. But what happens next comes down to your vote.

You’ve seen the polls. You’ve heard the commentators. You know who they say is likely to win the national election. But your vote means more than that. Your vote is about what happens locally.

Barnet Hospital A&E is expanding to help get waiting times down. There are now many more appointments in GP surgeries available locally than before the pandemic. Attempts to build over our green belt land have been resisted. We secured funding to save our maintained nursery schools threatened with closure. 5000 people locally have been able to gain skills and opportunities through apprenticeships. And a record £70m has been secured to protect synagogues and Jewish schools.

We’ve made real progress over the last few years, but there is more to be done. I want to see our plan through. And if you do too, then I’m asking you to vote for it.

We need to continue the fight against anti-car measures from Sadiq Khan, like Ulez expansion and new bus lanes on our high street. People just want to be able to get around without too much hassle, and they should not be punished for needing their cars to do that.

And we can’t give up on the campaign to save Barnet police station. We must stop Sadiq Khan selling it off because we need police to be visible and present right here in our community. We’ve got work to do. And I’m asking you to use your vote to make sure we get the job done.

We can’t afford a Labour MP who’ll be on Sadiq Khan’s side not yours. We know Sadiq Khan ignores our priorities; ignores rising crime; imposes tower blocks on the suburbs; and introduced a new charge on drivers against our wishes. Just think what Sadiq Khan will do without anyone standing up to him.

If you want an MP who will always speak up for your interests not Sadiq Khan’s, then I’m asking for your support.

Let’s not go backwards now. Let’s see our local plan through and build a brighter future for local families. I hope you will consider putting your trust in me again. Please vote for me on Thursday 4 July.”
