Theresa Villiers MP has issued a message of support for all young people taking GCSE and A-Level exams in her constituency. Barnet has some of the best performing schools in the country and Theresa also thanked teachers, head teachers and administrative staff for all their hard work.
Theresa Villiers said: “Good luck to all my young constituents who are taking their GCSEs and A-Levels this year.
We are lucky in Barnet to have such excellent schools. My thanks go to all the hard working teachers and admin staff, and all the supportive parents who put in so much effort and time to ensure that children in Barnet get a great education. We owe a great deal to the outstanding work of teachers in Barnet – not just at the GCSE and A Level stage, but to those laying the groundwork and teaching children in primary school.
I hope that all my young constituents achieve the good results they are striving for in their exams. I wish them all well as they look forward to a new chapter in their lives as they head towards the finish of their school days.”
In February this year, 91% of pupils in Barnet attended a good or outstanding school, compared to 88% for outer London as a whole and 82% in England. Barnet’s results are made even more impressive taking into account the proportion of pupils in the borough who either receive free school meals or speak English as a second language.
At the primary school stage, Barnet is in the top 18 local authorities across the UK for reading, writing and mathematics, and in the top ten percent for progress in reading and mathematics. Queen Elizabeth’s Girls’ School in Chipping Barnet is one of the longest established girls’ schools in the country, while St Andrew the Apostle School in Brunswick Park holds the distinction of being the first state-funded Greek Orthodox faith school in the UK.
