Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, has backed a Barnet Council bid to Government for over £1m to deliver new affordable homes on derelict land in Coppetts Road, N10, in her constituency.
The Council has submitted an application £1,041,807 to the Government’s Brownfield Land Release Fund to clean up the site and prepare it for construction.
The proposal is for fifteen homes which will be retained and managed by Barnet Homes for families on the Council’s housing waiting list. These would be let at London Affordable Rent, helping to meet local housing need and get people out of Temporary Accommodation.
Over half the new dwellings would family homes with private amenity space and access to natural play space. Two units are expected to be wheelchair accessible.
“I welcome the efforts the Government is making to ensure that new homes can be built on derelict brownfield sites like this one,” Theresa said.
“I’m backing this bid for funding because it makes sense to build new homes on this land and a grant from Government would make the project viable," she continued.
“The exact nature of what gets built will need to go through the planning process and I will look at this carefully. But I am very supportive of the principle of delivering new affordable homes for rent there.”
“I very much hope the bid will be successful and I am urging the Government to accept it.”
