Chipping Barnet MP Theresa Villiers has highlighted antisemitism in football, as she seeks to support the Jewish community in getting football clubs and the police to stamp out abuse at games.

Speaking in Parliament this week, Theresa told MPs: “Following the disgraceful antisemitic abuse directed at the football fan Kate Price earlier this month, may we have a debate on the so-called Y-word, so that the House can send the clear message that this is a vile racist slur which has no place in football or in wider society?”

Speaking afterwards: Theresa added: “Racism at football games is unacceptable. I met Jonathan Metliss this week, from the Board of Deputies of British Jews, to discuss his campaign against antisemitism in football.

“We agreed to seek meetings with the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities Michael Gove, the Met Commissioner Sir Mark Rowley, the Premier League, the FA, and the English Football League (EFL) to make the case for more action to crack down on anti-Jewish racism in football.”

The antisemitic incident referred to in Theresa's question took place in the Cally Pub in Caledonian Road, following a game between Spurs and Arsenal, and is being investigated by the police.
