Theresa Villiers hosting a skills and apprenticeships fair

Chipping Barnet MP Theresa Villiers has hosted a skills fair to bring together a range of employers with school pupils, young people and constituents of all ages seeking jobs, apprenticeships or new careers.

The event at Oakleigh Community Church last Wednesday was sponsored by successful construction business, Quinn London, and pupils from Ashmole Academy and Finchley Catholic High School were amongst the people who came along.

Companies and organisations who set up stalls and spoke to local people included Centrica/British Gas, Mayfair Homecare, the London Fire Brigade, DWP/Jobcentre Plus, Aldi, Springboard, Oak Tree Reliance and Focus Fitness. Barnet and Southgate College were also at the event which was open to the public.

“I have a longstanding interest in skills and apprenticeships and the fair was a chance to bring major employers to Barnet to meet constituents of all ages looking for a new challenge,” said Theresa.

“It is really important young people in particular know more about what job and training opportunities are out there for them when they are ready to join the world of work. With job vacancies at record levels, there should be plenty of options for them to choose from."

“That includes the £2 billion Kickstart scheme to give 16-24-year-olds the chance for a six-month work experience paid for by the Government."

“I would like to thank all the employers and organisations for coming to the fair and making it such a success - it was well attended. I know many businesses enjoyed meeting with the public and with each other and I hope everyone found it helpful.”

Other firms at the fair were: Home Instead, Pitman, CVWizz, Boost (Barnet Group), NL Proud to Care, Cidori, Future Connect, ChoppyCuts, HFT London, Eleanor Healthcare, Mara Nursery and MiHomecare.
