MP vows to fight plans for a thousand more flats in North London Business Park

Tower blocks planned for North London Business Park

Responding to the announcement by Comer Homes that they hope to add over 1100 flats to the development they are planning for North London Business Park, Theresa Villiers MP vowed to fight these proposals.

For many years, Theresa campaigned against the planning application to build 1350 new flats and houses in North London Business Park (NLBP) in Brunswick Park Road in her Chipping Barnet constituency, working with residents and with ward councillors, Lisa Rutter and Roberto Weeden-Sanz. The application was rejected by Barnet Council, but given the go ahead by a planning inspector in 2020, following an appeal.

Comer Homes, who own the site, briefed the local MP earlier this week. They revealed that they will be submitting a fresh planning application to increase the number of units in their development from 1350 to around 2500.

Following the Zoom meeting with Comer’s representatives, Theresa said, “These plans are disgraceful. The last application for 1350 flats and houses was already an overdevelopment of the site. To squeeze in over a thousand new flats and raise building heights to as much as 13 storeys is completely unacceptable.”

“I will be fighting strongly against these plans. They violate a long list of crucial planning rules. The surrounding suburban area is largely made up of homes of just one or two storeys. 13 storey tower blocks should have no place in Barnet’s low-rise suburban neighbourhoods. Many of my constituents are appalled by what Comer Homes want to do. I’m not surprised. So am I. I will do whatever I can to try to stop this from going ahead. Residents have my full support.”
