Chipping Barnet MP Theresa Villiers has successfully persuaded Transport for London to take action to improve reliability on the 107 bus route which runs from Edgware to New Barnet via High Barnet station.
A regular 107 bus passenger herself, Theresa complained to TfL about long gaps between buses, after complaints from local people. As a result of this pressure from Theresa, TfL added an additional vehicle to the route.
“I’m pleased TfL has listened and put more resources into this route to help local people get to work and make it to their appointments,” said Theresa.
“There were significant problems with reliability in the past. This extra vehicle has helped to tackle delays and improve the 107 bus service. I will monitor the situation and I'll be on the case again with TfL if the service deteriorates again in the future.”
TfL confirmed in a meeting with Theresa in her Westminster office earlier this month that they had introduced the new vehicle as a result of her complaint and that this had improved reliability on the 107 bus route.
Theresa also used the meeting to bring TfL together with representatives from Chipping Barnet Town Team and the Barnet Residents’ Association to work on how bus services around High Barnet town centre could be improved.
“This process is still in the early stages and I will want to see the detailed proposals; but we had a good discussion of the options. I emphasised that TfL needs to implement a proper consultation with local people before final decisions are made on any major changes to bus services,” Theresa added.
