Chipping Barnet MP Theresa Villiers joined pupils from Christ Church Primary School in Byng Road in Barnet on Friday as they learned new digital and internet safety skills through an initiative from Google.
The ‘Be Internet Legends’ is a joint programme between Google and Parent Zone. It takes a roadshow to school assemblies to talk to children about being safe online.
Theresa invited the search engine company to Barnet after meeting them in Westminster a few months ago and hearing about their free programmes for schools.
“I was really impressed with the event and the pupils seemed very engaged and enthusiastic to learn,” she said.
“It is so important that we help children in Barnet stay safe online and thrive in the digital age. I particularly welcomed the emphasis on strong password choices, protecting personal information, and being kind to one another online.”
“I am really pleased that Google and Parent Zone are taking this issue so seriously and bringing this excellent roadshow – which has reached 1 million pupils - to schools across the country.”
The ‘Be Internet Legends’ curriculum includes lesson plans, information for parents and certificates for children to encourage safer and more confident online use.
