Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, has raised local concerns about the 107 bus with Commissioner for Transport for London, Mike Brown, and the Head of Surface Transport at TfL, Leon Daniels. The future of the service is uncertain because Hertfordshire County Council is no longer able to part fund the route which runs from New Barnet station to Elstree and Borehamwood through Arkley.
Reporting back on her meeting with the two senior figures at TfL, Theresa Villiers said: "Whilst Mr Brown and Mr Daniels were not able to give firm promises at this stage about the 107, they both made it clear that they would work to try to find a way to secure the future of the route and others affected by Hertfordshire's recent funding decision. It was encouraging to hear these two senior executives from TfL acknowledge the importance of the 107 for Londoners, including those parts of the route which are outside the Greater London boundary. They confirmed that there are no immediate plans to change or withdraw the service and that there was therefore some time to try to find a solution regarding the 107's future. They also told me that consultation would take place before final decisions were made on any possible changes.
All parts of the public sector are having to make difficult decisions on budgets, including local authorities and TfL. But it is also the case that the proportion of funding previously provided by Hertfordshire only provided a part of the running costs. I know too that TfL is committed to more efficient ways of working to deliver savings to enable them to maintain front line services with constrained resources. So whilst the current situation is worrying for local residents, particularly in Arkley where the 107 is such an important link, I believe there is some hope that a resolution can be found."
