Villiers visits Coppetts Wood

Chipping Barnet MP Theresa Villiers has welcomed council funding to improve steps, fences and paths at Coppetts Wood after she spoke to the authority about helping the volunteers looking after the site.

Theresa has been in regular contact with Petra Schade Co-Chair, of Coppetts Wood Conservationists, and her team. After a recent visit the Coppetts Wood to see the improvements made by this group, Theresa contacted Barnet Council and asked the authority to take action to tackle problems the conservationists had raised with her. The MP also gave her formal backing to the application for funding which the volunteers subsequently made.

The conservationists were recently told that the council will soon repair steps and fences at Coppetts Wood. It will also supply the volunteers with path repair materials for ongoing maintenance. Work is scheduled to be completed by the end of next month.

In addition, a deep clean has taken place to remove litter from around the 'tank trap' area and there have been improvements to the emptying of the bins.

“Coppetts Wood is one of my favourite places in the constituency and I have visited many times to enjoy its wildlife and plants, and to see for myself the dedicated work of the volunteers who do so much to look after it,” said Theresa.

“The council agreeing to make important repairs is really good news. Many more people have visited this haven for nature right next to the North Circular Road over the last two years because of the pandemic and so repairs are very much needed."

“I was happy to raise this with our local council and back the application to secure funding for this work.”

Theresa is due to visit again in March to see the improvements first hand.
