MP Theresa Villiers has launched a new “#BackBarnet #ShopLocal” campaign to encourage residents to return to high street shops and hospitality businesses now that Covid restrictions are being eased.
With non-essential shops, hairdressers and outdoor hospitality venues able to open their doors again yesterday, Theresa has been out visiting local businesses.
She stopped off for a cup of tea at Em's Cafe in Whetstone saying “Now that Covid restrictions are starting to ease, I am urging Barnet residents to support our high streets, shops and hospitality businesses.”
“Our hospitality sector and retailers have had a really tough 12 months and I hope everyone will #BackBarnet and #ShopLocal as much as they can. The fact is that many independent retailers, pubs and restaurants need customers back in numbers to make up for lost trade. They need our support if they are gong to survive into the future.”
Theresa added that it would be especially important to back local pubs and restaurants once indoor hospitality opens up again on 17th May as part of the Government’s roadmap out of lockdown.
“The amazing vaccination programme is making this cautious lifting of lockdown possible. The huge uptake of Covid jabs offers the real hope of life starting to return to normal. Part of that normality is getting out into our high streets. The big online retailers don't need our money; local independent retailers, café, bars and restaurants do.”
