Olympic Gold Medallist, Mo Farah captained an Arsenal Legends team which included Tony Adams, Ian Wright, Ray Parlour, Perry Groves, and Paul Davis. Former Bolton player, Fabrice Muamba, managed their opponents, Refugee IDP World XI, featuring Mickey Thomas, Syed Kamall MEP and representatives from the refugee organisation, Freedom for Torture.

Theresa said: “I was delighted to be part of this successful charity match. It was brilliant to have so many sporting stars at the Underhill stadium and I was glad to see that one of London’s Conservative MEPs, Syed Kamall, took part in the game.”

“The fact that sporting celebrities are prepared to give their time and effort to raise money for charity is great. There was a large crowd and I am sure everyone enjoyed the game. It was an honour to be asked to present the trophies and meet some of the sporting legends taking part.”

The opportunity to score the winning goal was narrowly missed by the Arsenal Legends, resulting in a diplomatic draw of 1-1 which seemed fitting for the occasion.

The event, sponsored by The European Azerbaijan Society, raised funds for charities which provide support refugees and internally displaced persons (or IDPs).
