Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, has backed the campaign against demolition of Brake Shear House in Barnet High Street. The plans by the new owner to redevelop the site would lead to the eviction of all the current tenants who have a range of businesses based there.

Theresa Villiers said: "I am very worried about so many successful local businesses being evicted from Brake Shear House. Around 20 successful businesses are run from there and it will be very difficult for them to find alternative premises in the area."

"Some of them have been located in Brake Shear House for over 30 years. Flairline has been there for around 40 years. This is an important community of local traders providing jobs for around 100 people. I believe the new owners of Brake Shear House should think again about their plans to evict the tenants and redevelop the site for housing and office space. If they are going to redevelop, they should do so in a way which retains facilities for the current tenants so they can carry on with their businesses."

The new owners of Brake Shear House are Wrenbridge Land Ltd.
