The launch of the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal today received support from Chipping Barnet MP, Theresa Villiers, with a parade through East Barnet and church service in Brookside Methodist Church.

The East Barnet Royal British Legion (EBRBL) marked the start of the 2015 Poppy Appeal within the London Borough of Barnet with a parade from their Brookhill Road home to Brookside Methodist Church in East Barnet village.

Following the event, Theresa Villiers said “It was an honour to be able once again to join members of the East Barnet Royal British Legion for their annual event to launch the Poppy Appeal in the borough of Barnet.”

“I pay tribute to the brilliant work done across the country by the Royal British Legion to support ex-servicemen and women. We all owe a huge debt of gratitude to the members of our armed forces. The Royal British Legion does vital work in looking after these brave men and women. I am delighted that there is such a thriving British Legion branch in East Barnet and I enjoyed taking part in this year’s parade. I give my very best wishes to the Poppy Appeal this year and all the volunteers who will be out collecting.”

The service at Brookside Methodist Church was carried out by the Revd Shaun Sanders and the Revd James Mustard, EBRBL Chaplains. The parade was led by the Metropolitan Police Pipe Band.
