Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, has joined forces with small business owner Ben Scanlon to promote the Brexit cause in Barnet. Ben, the proprietor of Barnet Van Sales, is currently advising commuters in Barnet to Vote Leave with large banners displayed outside his premises on Barnet High Road.
Barnet Vans were founded in 1965 and has operated in London for over half a century. Ben Scanlon has lived in Barnet since 1971. He started work in south London and worked in the London Docklands before the area was redeveloped.
Ben said: “I’ve lived in London all my life. All my family come from London. These guys in Europe are the opposite to what I grew up with – there’s no integrity.”
“I think the EU is unaccountable, and the people who run it are out of touch, and I don’t want them to be in charge of my children and grandchildren’s future. I think they are driven by political union at any cost. As a small businessman I think people should work for their money. People make their careers out of taking money out of the EU. They are not standing up for the working man. I will definitely be voting Out.”
Theresa Villiers said: “It was great to meet Ben. The longer the campaign goes on, the more people I meet who are voting Leave because they know that the European Union is just not accountable to the hardworking people who fund it. So long as we remain a member of the EU, a big proportion of our laws will continue to be made by people who we don’t elect and who most of us have never even heard of. We have the chance to take back control this Thursday. I would urge anyone who cares about our democracy to Vote Leave.”
