Chipping Barnet MP Theresa Villiers discussed crime, terrorism and national security issues with the Home Secretary last week.
She invited Amber Rudd to a Conservative Party event in her Chipping Barnet constituency and the pair talked about the rise in the number of murders in the capital and what can be done to combat this worrying development.
“There is real public concern about the recent rise violent crime in London and I was reassured the Home Secretary is working on a cross-party basis and with many agencies to tackle this increase,” said Theresa.
“We agreed that a response to these tragic cases which only covers policing will not be sufficient. The focus has to be on long-term prevention as well as policing, including programmes to help young people get away from gangs and resist their influence.
“Thankfully, the chances of people living in Barnet falling victim to a violent crime are still very low. But it was good to hear directly from the Home Secretary about the work which the police and other agencies are doing to protect us from terrorism and violent crime.”
“Police numbers in Barnet are decided by the Mayor of London. I will continue to urge him to give us a fairer share of police officers in Barnet and to reverse his decision to close Barnet police station.”
The Home Secretary led a discussion with around 100 people at the event held at South Herts Golf Club in Totteridge on 12th April. Ms Rudd came straight from the emergency Cabinet meeting in Syria and set out some of her thoughts on the situation there.
