Theresa Villiers member of parliament for Chipping Barnet has issued the following message for Sukkot:
“I would like to send my best wishes to all my Jewish constituents during Sukkot. Beginning at sunset today, Sukkot commemorates the years that the Jewish people spent in the desert on their way to the Promised Land and celebrates the way in which God protected them in the desert.
Named after the word for hut or booth, Sukkot is a time when the tradition has been for Jewish families to build a shelter outside of their home with a roof made of leaves and branches to allow for a view of the sky to act as a reminder of how fragile human life can be”.
