Happy Pongal!

Theresa Villiers member of for Chipping Barnet has issued the following Pongal message:

“At a special time of the year for Tamil people in Barnet and worldwide I would like to send my best wishes to all of my constituents who are celebrating the festival of Pongal this week.

I hope that all my Tamil constituents will have the chance to spend time with friends and family at this special time of the year. I wish you all a very Happy Thai Pongal!"

Pongal is celebrated by the Tamil community across the world marking one of the most important dates in the Tamil calendar. Originating over a 1000 years ago Pongal is mainly celebrated to convey appreciation for a successful harvest. Celebrations include the boiling of the first rice of the season, as well as giving thanks to all those who produce food.
