Theresa Villiers MP has welcomed the formal opening of the new £200m Chase Farm Hospital building by His Royal Highness, the Duke of York.

The Chipping Barnet MP was among the guests at the opening ceremony on Thursday conducted by HRH Prince Andrew who is patron of the Royal Free Hospital Trust which runs Chase Farm.

The new building started to receive patients in the autumn and focuses mainly on elective care. It deploys the latest digital technology and aims to be one of the first ‘paperless’ hospitals in the country.

“This is an excellent new hospital for local residents which will greatly improve the standard of patient care," Theresa said.

"Previously housed in a collection of aging buildings spread over a fairly wide area, Chase Farm’s move to this state-of-the-art new facility has been welcomed by patients and staff. I have been shown round the hospital and heard at first hand from NHS staff about how they can offer better care in these improved conditions. For example, infection control is much easier than it was in the old Chase Farm.”

“I have campaigned for many years to support Chase Farm Hospital and I am delighted that its future has been secured with this new building. It is great to have such a prominent member of the Royal Family here to mark the formal opening of the new hospital.”

Others attending the event on Thursday at Chase Farm in The Ridgeway in Enfield included Matthew Offord, MP for Hendon, Dominic Dodd, Chair of the Royal Free Trust, and many members of the staff of the new hospital.
