Chipping Barnet MP Theresa Villiers recently joined pupils from Foulds Primary School to see them learn how to be safer and more confident online explorers.

The ‘Internet Legends’ assembly is a nationwide initiative by Google and The Parents Zone that has reached one million pupils.

Theresa was in the assembly at the school in Byng Road last week to hear how children can be safer and smarter in the digital age through learning from the programme.

“It is vital young children are safe in the online world and this programme from Google is doing a great job helping pupils, teachers and parents navigate the digital landscape,” said Theresa.

“Inevitably the internet will be part of every child’s life from their earliest years. It is therefore so important that we provide them will the knowledge and understanding they need to avoid being harmed or exploited.”

“The children were really enthusiastic and receptive to the Google assembly. I have been a supporter of this scheme for some time now and I encouraged Google to include schools in my constituency in their tour around the UK. It is an excellent initiative and I urge all schools to consider a visit from the Internet Legends team.”

The Internet Legends curriculum include lesson plans, information for parents and certificates for children to encourage safer and more confident online use.

A picture of Theresa with some of the pupils who took part in the assembly is attached for your use. Google and the school have obtained the necessary parental consents for the photo to be used.
