In discussions with the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Rishi Sunak, Theresa Villiers MP has put the case for more funding for the police and for schools.

In a discussion about the Spending Review (SR) which will take place next week, Theresa highlighted police and schools as high priorities for her constituents. Separately from SR discussions taking place in relation to her role as Secretary of State, Theresa raised these issues in her capacity as MP for Chipping Barnet.

“My constituents want more police on the street in Barnet,” said Theresa. “I have been campaigning for more police and I want this Spending Review to help deliver this. An additional £172m has already been pumped into policing in London but it’s taking time to deliver more officers. I will keep pushing for action on this until we see more police in our borough.”

“School funding is also a concern raised with me frequently by constituents. Although school funding is at record levels, costs are rising for local schools. We have some of the best schools in the country in Barnet and I have therefore been energetically making the case for more resources for them. I will continue to work with parents and with teachers to address the concerns felt about school budgets.”

The Government’s Spending Review setting out budgets for different areas of the public sector will be announced in Parliament on Wednesday by the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sajid Javid. Preparation for the review is being led by the Chancellor's deputy, Rishi Sunak, Chief Secretary to the Treasury.
