Protest at NLBP planning inquiry

Theresa Villiers, MP for Chipping Barnet, has welcomed the decision by planning inspector Christa Masters, to turn down an appeal by Comer Homes to add over a thousand flats to their development at North London Business Park (NLBP).

This proposal was turned down by Barnet Council in December. Following a public inquiry earlier this year, the inspector decided to uphold the unanimous decision by Barnet Council’s planning committee.

Responding to the news, Theresa Villiers said: “I have been campaigning for many years against overdevelopment at North London Business Park. I welcome the inspector’s decision to reject the appeal by Comer Homes.”

“They already have permission to build 1350 homes on the site. Enlarging that development to 2419 units in blocks of up to twelve storeys would have been a massive overdevelopment, dominating the skyline in an area of largely one and two storey family homes.”

“I will always oppose plans which damage the character of our low-rise outer suburban environment in Barnet. This case shows that when Barnet Council have the courage to say no to plans for excessive development, it is possible for them to successfully defend appeals. I wish they would do this more often, instead of rubber stamping bad proposals such as Victoria Quarter.”

"I want to thank the dedicated and determined residents who put the case against Comer's latest plans effectively and cogently. We could not have secured this result without their efforts."
