Happy Passover from Theresa Villiers MP

I would like to wish Chag Pesach Semeach to the Jewish community. Happy Passover!

Passover is a special time of the year for Jewish people in Barnet and around the world. The festival celebrates to escape from slavery in Egypt, as recounted in the Book of Exodus.

Families gather together for a traditional Seder meal with special food. Candles are lit and blessings are recited. What happens is set out in a book called a Haggadah.

For many there will be an element of sadness at this normally joyful time of the year because hostages remain in Gaza brutally separated from their loved ones.

I am certain that the trauma of loss will be acutely felt by the friends and families of these hostages. I sincerely hope that they are soon released and can return to their homes and families.

I also have in my thoughts the people who have been bereaved as a result of the horrors of 7th October. I feel sure that their Passover will also be marked by deep sadness.
